Elizabeth Close: Wet paint and ‘what lays beneath’

Posted on: Fri 25 Jun 2021

Elizabeth Yanyi Close is a Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara multi-disciplinary artist, who works in 2D visual art, large-scale mural installation and digital media.

She speaks to us after working on a 40-metre mural, at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital, with emerging Wurundjeri artist Samantha Roberts. Her two-person exhibition with Shane Mankitya Kooka, A Close 3rd, wrapped up on the 5th of June.

Ahead of another show in July at FELTspace, Elizabeth speaks to us about her recent projects, and how her art practice developed over 14 years. Anisha begins by asking about the 40-metre mural.
