In 1847, it’s believed the first known photograph of lightning was taken by American photographer Thomas Martin Easterly using the daguerreotype process of photography.
In 1980, Indian woman Shakuntala Devi, known as the “human computer”, set a world record by correctly multiplying two random 13-digit numbers in her head in only 28 seconds. Famously, during an interview on the BBC, she proved a computer wrong after being told her answer to a mathematical question was incorrect.
In 2016, Adele was recognised for her songwriting, being named the Songwriter of the Year at the Ivor Novello Awards for her third album ‘25’.
