Recently, Victoria’s shadow treasurer, Louise Staley, has been putting questions to the State government about a cover up of the Premier’s illness, prompting a conspiracy theory about Dan Andrews’ health to reach the mainstream media.
This has been a test for the Australian media to see how their handling of the story could easily create what we now know as fake news.
Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Advancing Journalism at The University of Melbourne, Denis Muller, joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann to talk about how this reflects the state of fake and manufactured news in Australia.
