Mixing and Matching COVID-19 Vaccines

Posted on: Tue 1 Jun 2021

In the face of changing eligibility for the AstraZenneca vaccine, many people are wondering if they could “mix and match” the COVID-19 Vaccines.

This means, for example, having the AstraZeneca vaccine as the initial dose, followed by a second dose of a different vaccine, such as Pfizer.

This concept has been recently tested overseas in Spain and the United Kingdom.

The data suggests this “mix and match” schedules may high higher antibody levels than sticking with the single vaccine for both doses.

Breakfast’s Tom Mann speaks to John Hart, clinical researcher at Murdoch Children’s research institute about ‘mixing and matching’ the AstraZenneca and Pfizer vaccines.
