Govt ‘gaslights’ COVID-19 recovery
Posted on: Fri 28 May 2021
Last year the federal government launched their ‘gas-fired recovery’ plan, claiming gas would help re‑establish a strong economy in the face of a COVID-19 recession.
New research by the Australia Institute has found between May 2020 and February 2021, employment across the economy grew by more than 863,000.
Meanwhile, Australia’s ‘gas led recovery’ contributed to a loss of 3,800 jobs in the same timeframe.
Dr Richard Denniss, Chief Economist at the Australia Institute and co-author of the report, joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann and Paul Davies to discuss.
