Child Care in Aged Care

Posted on: Fri 14 May 2021

The ABC series Old People’s Home for Four Year Olds has gained popularity for its heartwarming showcase of an Australian social experiment that brings together retirement home residents and pre-schoolers to see how their interactions affect each other’s health, happiness, and social skills.

Recently, the experiment has been replicated in South Australia through the ‘Child Care in Aged Care’ program. This project was funded by the State Government’s Office for Aging Well, led by aged care provider ACH Group, and co-designed by the University of South Australia and TAFE SA’s City West Child Care Centre.

One of the program’s co-designers, University of South Australia occupational therapy lecturer Dr Carolyn Murray. joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann and Paul Davies to discuss the program and the impact of intergenerational relationships.
