‘Milkshake’ metaphor harms consent education
Posted on: Thu 22 Apr 2021
This week, the Federal Government launched a new educational campaign to teach school kids about consent and respectful relationships called “Respect Matters”.
Created by the Good Society, this campaign cost $3.8 million and uses a range of different scenarios and props including milkshakes, tacos and shark-infested waters to explain the concepts of consent and boundaries.
Within just a matter of days, two of the videos have been removed from the campaign website after being heavily criticised by sex education experts, politicians and punters for being “confusing” and “potentially dangerous”.
Director of End Rape on Campus, Sharna Bremner joins the Pink Rabbit team to discuss.
