Jan Hyde: WRAAC – the evolving role of women in defence

Jan served in an era that was rapidly changing, and she was at the forefront of that change. She was one of the last to serve in the WRAAC before it was disbanded and the female soldiers, including Jan, were amalgamated into other Corps and units within the Army. It was a time of broadening roles and responsibilities for women, as well as equal pay, and having to justify why that was an imperative.
