Kate Lawrence: Womens’ Talk

It’s not often we hear from Arrernte women outside Alice Springs. So a book of their poems, in English, is a precious thing. The book is Arelhekenhe Angkentja, or “Women’s Talk” in Arrernte language. It began with some workshops held at Akeyulerre Healing Centre place where Kate Lawrence was manager for 2 of her twenty years working in Central Australia. Kate spoke with Nicky Page for Service Voices, and reads several of the poems. The book is published by Ptilotus Press.
