Prison riot in New Zealand

Posted on: Mon 11 Jan 2021

Waikeria Prison in New Zealand saw a 43-hour lockdown as a group of 16 inmates got on the jail’s roof after starting a riot and lighting fires in the prison yard last Tuesday.

During the six-day uprising, it was reported the Department of Corrections withheld food and water from more than a dozen inmates on the roof before their surrender.

Our Kiwi correspondent, Oscar Perress from 95BFM joins Tom Mann and Zoe Kounadis to talk us through this incident and the aftermath.
