The mighty Pacific is in peril

Healthy and vibrant oceans produce the oxygen we breathe, regulate the weather, provide food, and give other benefits to millions of people. By better understanding the threats to them, we can start the long road to protecting them.
The Pacific Ocean is the deepest, largest ocean on Earth, covering about a third of the globe’s surface. An ocean that vast may seem invincible, yet the Pacific Ocean’s delicate ecology is under threat.
To examine the unfolding situation facing the Pacific, Barometer’s Des Lawrence spoke to Dr. Jodie Rummer, Associate Professor at the Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, James Cook University
