Tech giants up against landmark code

This year the Australian Government and Australian Competition and Consumer Commission took on global tech giants Google and Facebook, in a bid to see them pay Australian media companies for news content published on their sites, along with other conditions.
The whole world was watching as Google and Facebook lobbied against these changes, but this week the long-awaited Treasury Laws Amendment Bill 2020 (News Media and Digital Platforms Mandatory Bargaining Code) was introduced to parliament, before being referred to a Senate committee.
