Great Barrier Reef listed as “critical”

The health of the Great Barrier Reef is now classed as “critical”, according to a sobering report just released by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
This body is the global authority on nature. Its third outlook report marks the first time it has declared an Australian World Heritage site as critical, which means the reef’s natural values are severely threatened and deteriorating.
To discuss the outlook for the reef, Barometer’s Des Lawrence spoke to Jon Day, PhD candidate, at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, James Cook University
