COVID-19 Delays New Zealand Election
Posted on: Mon 24 Aug 2020
After putting the country in level three lockdowns last week, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced the date of the upcoming Federal elections will be delayed by almost a month.
The situation has resulted from the evolving number of positive cases in the country which hit 114 over the weekend, the vast majority of which originating from a cluster in Auckland.
The elections were originally scheduled for September 19th, but will now be delayed until October 17th.
New Zealand correspondent, Oscar Perress from 95bFM joins Breakfast‘s Tom Mann and Zoe Kounadis to talk about this delay and other major impacts in the country resulting from the new outbreak.
He also touches on the sentencing for the Christchurch shooter, which is scheduled to begin today.
