Mass protests in Belarus continue as President Lukashenko’s re-election continues to fuel the country’s unrest. The protests have been sparked in part by Lukashenko’s tackling of COVID-19, corruption in Belarus and the lack of work opportunities for citizens.
A number of high profile Belarusians have stood in solidarity with protesters including TV presenter Tatyana Borodkina who announced her support on Facebook and footballer Ilya Shkurin who said he would not represent his country until Lukashenko stepped down.
Europe correspondent, Ineke Mules spoke with Breakfast’s Tom Mann about the current state of Belarus.
