On this day in 1983, the wearing of seat belts in cars became compulsory in Britain. Also, on this day in 1990, the first McDonald’s restaurant opened in the Soviet Union after 13 years of negotiation between the Canadian division of the fast-food company and the Communist Party. The restaurant became the largest one of the world at that time and received 30,000 customers on the very first day.
