An overpriced painting, a birth of an icon and some indecent language occurred on this day in history.

In 2017, Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “Salvator Mundi” sells for 450 million dollars at an auction in New York, which the all-time record for a painting at auction and the most ever believed to have been paid for an artwork. In 1887, the internationally acclaimed American painter Georgia O’Keeffe was born in in a farmhouse in Wisconsin. Finally, in 1969, Janis Joplin was arrested as she came off stage in Tampa, Florida, and charged with the use of “vulgar and indecent language”.
