US President Donald Trump has retreated forces from north-eastern Syria recently, and some believe that this could see Islamic State roar back to life.
And with the death of IS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi earlier this week, it remains unclear if IS will crumble, or grow back stronger than before.
Greg Barton, Chair in Global Islamic Politics at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation at Deakin University joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann and Zoe Kounadis to explain more.
