Senate cross-bench and passing better laws – Noah Schultz-Byard

Posted on: Thu 10 Jan 2019

Polling by the Australia Institute has found that a majority of Australians think that negotiations in the federal Senate lead to better laws being passed for the country and that it’s bad when one party controls both houses of parliament.

This comes with the report “Saved by the Bench”, which illustrates how more than $23 billion in renewable investment has gone ahead as a result of senate cross-bench negotiations since 2013.

Noah Schultz-Byard from the Australia Institute joined Nick and Ian on Breakfast this morning to talk about the report and the effect of the cross-bench in Australian politics.
