Earshot and the Phonofiddle

Posted on: Mon 31 Dec 2018

Dr Russell Fewster, Director, writer and Lecturer in Performing Arts at UniSA, and musician Jess Bayder talk about Earshot, an opera that dramatises contemporary Australian pilgrimage to the WWI battlefields in France, using music, song and ghosts as a means of healing the profound experience of searching for the grave of a relative lost through war.  This new ballad opera featured a rare phonofiddle, a violin made in the trenches by an Australian soldier. The sound of the violin becomes a healing force.
