In 1859, abolitionist John Brown led a slave rebellion in the town of Harpers Ferry in West Virginia, setting off a chain of events that culminated in a declaration of war.
Ras Tafari Makonnen in 1930 became the 225th Emperor of Ethiopia and later the unsuspecting messiah of a new a new Jamaican religion.
Creedence Clearwater Revival released their third studio album for the year of 1969 which included their version of a Lead Belly classic.
