On this day in 1895, the first car manufacturer in the United States, the Duryea Motor Wagon company, was founded in Springfield Massachusetts.
In 1937, J.R.R Tolkien’s classic children’s fantasy The Hobbit was first published by Allen and Unwin.
And in 1974, Carl Douglas had a hit with ‘Kung Fu Fighting’.
