Calls for SA government to support Newstart increase

SACOSS’ latest Cost of Living Report focuses on the struggle of South Australians living on the Newstart and other basic income support payments.
The report includes examples of five household budgets of people trying to live on Newstart and calls on the State Government to add its voice to the chorus of calls to increase inadequate payments.
Senior Policy Officer, Dr Greg Ogle, explains the report’s findings and Jai, who is in his early 20’s and living in a private rental property, shares his experiences of living on Newstart to Small Change‘s Lisa Burns.
