AMA’s Criticism of 20% Sugar Reduction In Soft Drinks

Posted on: Fri 29 Jun 2018

The Australian Beverages Council, with backing from the federal government minister, Greg Hunt, has committed to reducing the sugar in all sugary products by 20 percent by 2025.

The Australian Medical Association opposes this measure, saying that it doesn’t solve the severe health risks for those who consume soft drinks excessively.

Breakfast‘s Zoe Kounadis and Tom Mann speak with Dr Tony Bartone, the President of the AMA, about why they oppose this pledge.
