Raise the Rate campaign gaining momentum

The Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) has been building the supporter base of people calling for an increase to Newstart, Youth Allowance and related payments.
In a recent visit to Adelaide, CEO Dr Cassandra Goldie met with service providers, welfare recipients and local government representatives, to discuss the Raise the Rate campaign and hear from people about their experience of living on allowances.
In South Australia, 11 local governments have so-far pledged their support for an increase, in a campaign led by Anti-Poverty Network SA.
Cassandra speaks to Small Change’s Ross Womersley about the campaign, what she’s been hearing from service providers and those with lived experience, and why its urgent that Newstart and related payments are increased.
