On This Day June 26

On this day in history…
The US was doing what it is good at – fighting and leaving a mess to clean up. In 1862, one of the bloodiest days of the Civil War took place at Beaver Creek. In 1917 they arrived in France for World War I and in 1924 they ended an eight-year occupation of the Dominican Republic.
In 1894, Karl Benz patented the gasoline-driven auto in the US.
In 1977, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley performed his last live show in Indianapolis. He died in August the same year of a heart attack to the dismay of his legion of fans and still remains one of the most profitable musicians.
