On this day in 1932, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to make a solo air crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.

On this day in 1998, Indonesia’s second president, President Suharto, resigned after he received mounting domestic and international pressure.

On this day in 1979, Elton John began a series of concerts in Russia which were filmed for a cable TV special called, To Russia With Elton. This made Elton John the first western pop star to perform in the Soviet Union.
