It’s 230 years since the first settlement on Norfolk Island, we’re now up to the third – or more!
On this day in 1857, the US Supreme Court ruled against Dred Scott, a slave who sued for freedom after spending time in free territory. The decision sparked outrage across a nation which soon culminated in civil war. A timely reminder that history may be fluid and often contested, but from injustice can come rectitude.
Happy Day of the Dude! Make sure you take it easy, scatter the ashes of last year at the beach or listen to whale-sound tapes in the bath with a White Russian!
