Waitangi Day 2018
Posted on: Wed 14 Feb 2018
Waitangi Day is celebrated in New Zealand on 6 February to commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840.
The day is often plagued by controversy and protest. New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, broke with convention this year and chose to spend five days in Waitangi over the holiday.
Kiwi correspondent, Pearl Little, joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann to discuss why this is significant and other stories from across the Tasman.
