Repairing the Great Barrier Reef

Posted on: Mon 4 Dec 2017

All may not be lost for the Great Barrier Reef as a team of Australian scientists have discovered a way to regrow coral from larvae.

While the project is still in its experimental stages, it could change the management of reef systems across the world.

‘We can begin to kick-start the recovery of coral communities which form the foundation of the whole reef system,’ said lead marine-ecology scientist and researcher, Professor Peter Harrison from Southern Cross University.

Professor Harrison joins Tom and Ian to discuss this breakthrough and its importance.
