Ask “R U OK?” Today

Posted on: Fri 15 Sep 2017

When was the last time you asked someone “R U OK?”

Now, don’t feel too bad. Research shows that 1 in 3 people don’t feel comfortable in asking someone this simple question.

The R U OK campaign begun in 2009 with the hope of starting more conversations and in doing so help those struggling with life.

Since then R U OK has turned into a national day of action, held on September 14th, to raise awareness on suicide prevention.

The R U OK approach offers four easy steps to guide you, that is to ask, to listen, to encourage action, and to check in.

Izzy Evans spoke to Brendan Maher CEO of R U OK and Vicki McCoy Counselling Service Manager of Student Life at The University of Adelaide to get more information.
