WA WILL STRUGGLE TO ACHIEVE LABOR’S 43% EMISSION TARGET

Posted on: Tue 30 Aug 2022

Western Australia likely to struggle with achieving Labor’s target of 43% carbon reduction by the end of the decade because of the increase in mining industries from 2016-2021.

In contrast to most Australian states, WA’s carbon output has elevated by 4% in 2021 from 2005, making decarbonization of industries a difficult task. Mining activities constituted 47% of WA’s Gross State Product in 2021 (Govt. of Western Australia Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, 2021).

Dr Bradley Pettitt, the WA Greens Member of Legislative Council for South Metropolitan Region, talks about the state’s aim to decrease carbon output in the future.
