Hazara Afghan refugees can thrive in Australia

Posted on: Thu 7 Jul 2022

Can refugees have a smoother integration into Australia?

The successful settlement of 80 Hazara Afghan refugees in the town Leeton in New South Wales, over the past decade, is a glaring example of this possibility.

Researchers from the University of South Australia (UniSA), Charles Sturt University and Charles Darwin University, have launched the report “Learning from Leeton: a case study of refugee settlement in rural Australia”.

Dr David Radford, Senior Lecturer at UniSA, joins Breakfast‘s Tom Mann to discuss the report which explores the stories of some of the 80 Hazara Afghan refugees and the key steps for their full integration into the community of Leeton.
