In 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first living creature into space. Sputnik 2, which carried Laika, a dog, was shot into the Earth’s orbit.

In 1998 another section of the Great Wall of China was discovered. The piece contributes 25 kilometres of wall to the total 21,196 kilometres.

In 2014 the One World Trade Centre officially opened in New York City. Built on the site of the former World Trade Centre, which was tragically destroyed in the September 11 attacks.

In 1956 Elvis Presley knocked himself out of the #1 billboard position with his legendary song “Hound Dog”
