The Cost of Disasters

Posted on: Tue 19 Oct 2021

A new report prepared by Deloitte, commissioned by the Australian Business Roundtable for Disaster Resilience and Safer Communities, has estimated the cost of natural disasters in Australia will increase from the current cost of $38 billion per year, to $73-$94 billion by 2060, depending on the amount of warming that occurs. Barry Mitchell spoke to Dan Gocher, Director of Climate and Environment at the Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility, about this, and the changing position of some business bodies, including the Business Council of Australia.
