In 1868, the first edition of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved classic Little Women was published in America by Roberts Brothers of Brooklyn.

Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich was evacuated to Moscow in 1941 to escape the Nazi siege in Leningrad that killed 600,000 people.

In 1977, Elton John was honoured in New York City’s Madison Square Garden Hall of Fame, becoming the first musician to be awarded the honour.
