Highlighting the Effects of Male Violence with ‘The Boys’ Return

Posted on: Fri 9 Jul 2021

Adelaide-based StarheART theatre is set to revive Australian playwright Gordon Graeme’s 30-year-old script, The Boys, for a third time, shedding light on a subculture of male violence and a narrative influenced loosely by the Anita Cobby case.

Directed by David Hampton, the play focuses on the story of three Australian brothers who commit a crime, and the effect it has on the women in their lives.

Founder of StarheART theatre, Laura Collela, joined Festival City’s Emma Wotzke to chat about the initial attraction to the play, her reflective process having performed this several years ago, and some of her experiences exploring the subculture of male violence through theatre.

StarheART Theatre is presenting The Boys on 15, 16, 18, 23 & 24 July at Carclew.
