Not So Affordable Childcare

Posted on: Fri 2 Jul 2021

A new study by Victoria University’s Mitchell Institute has found that childcare is currently unaffordable for 386,000 Australian families and highlights how large the cost of childcare is for many families.

The report also assesses a childcare subsidy the Federal Government has put forward to take effect in 2022 revealing that services will still remain unaffordable for 34% of families who use the childcare system.

Hannah Matthews, a policy fellow at Victoria University, joins Breakfast’s Tom Mann and Paul Davies this to tell us more about the report.
