The story of a taxi driver in the nighttime

Posted on: Mon 28 Jun 2021

What’s it like to be a taxi driver in Adelaide between the hours of 6PM and 8AM? The graveyard shift.

Producer, writer and performer Adam Cirillo knows because as research for his performance at Holden Street Theatres and this year’s Umbrella Festival, he had a go at being a taxi driver in the nighttime. He bundled up those experiences and turned them into a show called Mum’s Guitar. It’s a show, but it’s also an album launch.

Below he reads out loud an excerpt of his script and performs one of the songs off the album. In and amongst all of that we talk loneliness, connection, and what it’s like to drive a taxi in our city after dark.
