THE MOST UNDERVALUED ARTWORK IN EVERY MUSEUM

Posted on: Fri 4 Jun 2021

On our recurring segment Into the Backstage we have a look behind the scenes in the world of arts and culture. We visit the spaces that are typically concealed from the visitors’ eyes and talk to the people you normally never hear from.

The museum interpretation, the tag, the wall text, that little bit of information that accompanies a work of art. It’s quite possibly the most overseen work of art in a museum. But the road it travels before it ends up on museum and gallery walls is astounding.

Festival City took MOD. exhibition coordinator and exhibition text creator Natalie Carfora out of the backstage to talk about the time and personality she puts into these museum tags, controversial descriptions, the art of engaging visitors, and the future of sharing information in museums.
