On this day in 1913 Charlie Chaplin began his film career by joining the Keystone Film Company, where he began directing some of the silent movies he starred in. Chaplin is one of the most important figures in the film industry and showed audiences that sound is not necessary to convey a narrtiave.

Additionally, on this day back in 1773, 342 chests of tea belonging to the British East India Company were thrown off a ship into the bottom of Boston Harbour as a protest against a tax on tea.
