DVA: Australia Remembers Bruce Rice, John Date, Keith Botterill

Posted on: Mon 21 Sep 2020

Continuing DVA’s 75 Days, 75 Stories Project, remembering the amazing generation of WW2 Australians, each with a unique story…  like Bruce Rice, one of our cartographers on the treacherous Kokoda Trail. Accurate mapping of the dense jungle exposed them to enormous risks, but it was critical to the fighting men;  Navy Veteran John Date was witness to a shocking spectacle involving aircraft carriers off the Leyte Gulf in the Philippines; Keith Botterill was one of only 6 survivors of the horrendous Sandakan Death March, where some 2,500 POWs were systematically killed by the Japanese.

See and hear all 75 stories at DVA’s website.
