International advocate for making cities more pedestrian friendly, Jeff Speck  shares lessons learnt from the car-obsessed  USA. He says we need to act now to combat urban sprawl and design cities for people not cars. Local Adelaide architect Gerald Matthews says city centres full of buildings used only in daylight hours could be easily redesigned to feed and accommodate the homeless and marginalised.
