On this day in history;

In 1797 author Mary Shelley was born in the UK.

In 1963 a telephone line was established between the UK and Moscow.

In 1983 US astronaut Guion S. Bulford Jr. was the first African-American astronaut in space.

In 1968 Apple Records, owned by the Beatles, released their first single in the UK. The single had the A-side track Hey Jude and the B-side track Revolution by The Beatles.
