Anti-Poverty Network on Raising Newstart

Posted on: Thu 31 May 2018

In this week’s Anangu Lands Paper Tracker radio program, we’re going to be talking about Income Management and also about the Newstart allowance.

The Basics Card and the Cashless Debit Card are part of the Government’s Income Management strategy, which allows the Government to control how and what people can spend their money on if they’re receiving income support such as Newstart or other income support payments.

People who are on the Basics Card and the Cashless Debit Card have a percentage of their money quarantined and only a specified amount of their money is available to them as cash.

To find out how people are affected by the amount of the Newstart allowance and by Income Management – in the form of the Cashless Debit Card and the Basics Card – we’re going to talk with Pas Forgione from the Anti-Poverty Network.

Pas will talk about the campaign to increase the amount of Newstart. If you’d like more information and you’re in Adelaide, the Anti-Poverty Network’s campaign launch for ‘It’s time to raise Newstart’ will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday 30th June 2018 at The Jade’, 142–160 Flinders Street, Adelaide. For more information, you can email antipovertynetwork.sa@gmail.com or phone 0411 587 663.
