The Artist behind the Real Australians Say Welcome Posters

Posted on: Thu 19 Apr 2018

Australia has accepted many refugees and asylum seekers but their reception has ranged from warm to hostile.  Over the last fifteen years the debate became polarised and difficult to influence but Adelaide street-artist, Peter Drew, found a deceptively simple way of getting his message across. He focused on creating a message of Welcome. His most iconic campaign ‘Real Australians Say Welcome’ has been seen Australia-wide.

Olivia Lukowska asked Peter Drew about the making of the campaign and how people responded.
