The Splinternet is on its way

The risk of the internet splitting into regional and national networks rather than one global platform is growing with each day and each new government policy.
“There’s mixed blessings here: an internet without the same amount of hate speech and harassment would be better,” says Professor of Media and Communications, Terry Flew.
“This idea that we can connect seamlessly with one another across boarders which is what we’d hoped for with global communication technologies is proving to be more difficult in practice.”
Terry spoke to Ian Newton about this phenomenon.
