Binning the Plastic Bag Ban

Woollies and Coles’ recent announcement to ban the plastic bag might not be the most productive move to help the environment.

“To say we’re going to ban one bag and replace it with another doesn’t really seem to fix anything,” said Gary Mortimer from the Queensland University of Technology.

“The money supermarkets will now make from the heavier quality plastic bags, a small proportion of that needs to be funnelled back into some sort of scheme.”

He spoke to Jennie Lenman other possible avenues for change.
