IS Destroys Historic Artefacts at Home

One of the many tragedies that have unfolded in the wake of the Islamic State is their smashing of statues and the destruction of ancient archaeological sites in the Middle East.

Associate Professor of Policy and Politics at Deakin University, Benjamin Isakhan, speaks to Jennie Lenman about how IS tries to justify these attacks,

“In their particular version of Islam, which is very warped and very extremist…any rival… or statue or monument that isn’t of the Islamic tradition…is therefore blasphemy.”
