Oil Spills & The Need For Scrutiny

“It’s probably the biggest spill of the year in the off shore environment. It’s probably 100 times bigger than any other spill during the year.”
That’s what Professor Andrew Hopkins — a former consultant to the US Chemical Safety Board — had to say about a 10,000-litre oil leak off the coast of Western Australia in 2016, which had been kept secret up until last week.
Professor Hopkins spoke with Jennie Lenman on Breakfast about this spill and the question it raises.
